Three family members in Bogra 6 constituency collected nomination papers to run for office in the 2018 national elections.

According to local sources, former Bogra district unit BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha collected nomination papers from his party.

On the other hand, Awami League leader Md Mahbub Alam and Manjurul Alam Mohon, two brothers of Rezaul collected nominations from Awami League.

From tea stall, drawing room, restaurant and market gossip, to office banter, nomination paper collection of the three brothers has undoubtedly become the main topic of social conversation now.

Rezaul said he collected the papers on the order of Tareque Rahman, the acting BNP chairperson, who is now living in London.

Rezaul also added BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest the polls from the constituency. He says he acted as a dummy candidate.

Awami League leader Mahbub Alam said, “Though we are involved with different parties and activities, it will not hamper our family unity.”

The incumbent MP for Bogra 6, however, is the Jatiya Party chief whip, Nurul Islam Omar. Nurul won uncontested in the 2014 elections after BNP boycotted the polls and Awami League stood aside for its alliance partner.

The constituency was created for the first general elections held in 1973, in newly independent Bangladesh.
