AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) asking Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda to extend the deadline for symbol allocation in the upcoming parliamentary election.
The letter was sent to the commission on Thursday.
In the letter, Badruddoza Chowdhury, president of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh leading the Jukta Front, stated the deadline for symbol allocation for the electoral alliances was November 15, according to sub-clause (a) of clause (1) in Article 20 of Representation of the People Order, 1972.
He also expressed his gratitude to the commissioner for listening to the demands of the political parties, including Jukta Front, and deferring the election for a week.
Bikalpa Dhara president said Jukta Front was still continuing to work on the expansion of their alliance; therefore it was logical and necessary that the time period for the allocation of electoral symbols would be extended.
He requested the election commissioner to extend the time period by 10 days, and make November 26 the new deadline for symbol allocation, for the sake of fair elections and for facilitating the completion of activities of the allied parties.
