Update : 07 Nov 2018, 01:34 PM

Jatiya Party-led United National Alliance has said the Election Commission (EC) should declare schedule for the next general election on Thursday.

“Dialogues between the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance and other parties will end today (Wednesday). So there is no need to defer the announcement of the election schedule,” Jatiya Party Secretary General Ruhul Amin Hawlader said after a meeting with Election Commission on Wednesday.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the election schedule on Thursday.

Ruhul, who was one of the 16-member delegations led by Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, said they had a successful meeting with the commission.

Jatiya Party placed a number of demands including deployment of the army as a string force during the election, not using electronic voting machines (EVM), and preventing the use of black money.

“People are not yet familiar with EVMs. More experiments are required before introducing this technology,” Ruhul said.

Who were the participants of the meeting?

Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Presidium Members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, MA Sattar and Sunil Shubho Roy are among the delegation.

On the other hand, apart from the CEC, four other commissioners and Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin are attending the meeting.

Talks with other parties

Earlier, the CEC held talks with Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh leaders and Dr Kamal Hossain-led-Jatiya Oikya Front.
