The Election Commission (EC) investigating team has resumed the investigation of alleged irregularities in more than 26 polling centers of the Barisal City Corporation elections held on July 30.
Khandokar Mizanur Rahman, joint secretary of election management and convener of the 4- member investigation committee, made the announcement on Thursday.
Prior to this, 30 polling centers were investigated from August 11 to 14.
On the basis of the complaint made directly to the Election Commission, more than 26 other centers were included in the investigation list.
Now, 56 out of 123 polling booths of BCC will be brought under investigation for alleged irregularities.
“During the four day investigation of 30 voting centers, we have taken statements from the presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, polling officers, polling agents, law enforcement agency officials, and others involved in the election process of those centers,” the convener of the probe committee added.
He said the report would be submitted to the Election Commission after the investigation, within 15 working days.
“After completing our investigation, we shall submit the report to Election Commission for the final decision on the fate of the investigated vote centers,” said the leader of the probe-team said.
Investigating team leader Khandokar Mizanur Rahman said the Election Commission would decide whether the reelection of the centers would be held or official results would be published according to the report of the investigation team.
