21 vie for a seat at Barisal University

More than 21 candidates will vie for a seat at Barisal University.

The BU admission test for first year honours courses under the 2014-15 academic session would be held in three shifts on October 18.

A total of 32,372 students have registered for this year’s test of the university – the fourth since its establishment – against 1,535 seats, said Faisal Mahmud Rumi, BU public relation officer.

According to BU sources, some 7,662 students have applied for 510 seats under ‘Ka’ unit.

Of them, there are 80 seats in Mathematics, 80 in Chemistry, 50 in Computer Science and Engineering, 80 in Soil and Environment Science, and 80 in Botany and Crop Science, 70 in Physics and 70 in Zoology.

Under ‘Kha’ unit, a total of 6,530 students will vie for the 490 seats.

Of them, there are 70 seats in the Economics department, 70 in Political Science, 70 in Social Science, 70 in Public Administration, 70 in Bangla, 70 in English and 70 in Law.

A total of 9,328 students have applied under ‘Ga’ unit against 300 seats.

There are 75 seats in Management Studies department, 75 in Marketing, 75 in Accounting and Information Systems and 75 in Finance and Banking under the business faculty.

Besides, 8,852 candidates under ‘Gha’ unit have applied for 235 seats reserved for the students who are willing to change subjects or faculties.

The test will be held at eleven different points, including the temporary and permanent campuses of BU, seven government educational institutions and two private colleges in Barisal city.

The test will be held in three different shifts starting from 10am- 11am for Ka and Kha units, 1pm-2pm for Ga, and 4pm-5pm for Gha unit, said Monirul Islam, BU acting registrar.

The detailed seat-plan will be available on BU website www.barisaluniv.ac.bd and www.barisaluniv.edu.bd, he added.

The one-hour written test will be held in MCQ system with 120 marks; one must score a minimum of 48 scores in order to be eligible for passing the test.

There are an additional 80 marks reserved for a candidate’s performance in his or her SSC and HSC examinations.

The result of the test would be published as soon as possible through BU websites and its notice board.

The selection process would be held on the basis of marks obtained from the MCQ test as well as SSC and HSC results, BU acting register said.

Classes would begin on the both temporary campuses of the university at Barisal Zilla School premises and at the currently under construction permanent campus, located on a 50 acres of land on the eastern bank of Kirtonkhola River, said BU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Harunor Rashid.
