The students of Brac University are staging protests for the third consecutive day, demanding the registrar’s apology and removal of two other officials for assaulting a lecturer on Sunday.
Boycotting classes and examinations, several hundred students started a sit-in in front of the university’s administrative building Tuesday morning.
Sources said the School of Law students were attending a class on the street by the terminated lecturer Farhaan Uddin Ahmed.
"The authorities have terminated our teacher in the middle of our semester while his course is yet to be completed. As our teacher is barred from entering the campus, we are attending classes on the street," a final year law student told the Dhaka Tribune.
"We will continue our protest until the vice-chancellor fulfils our demands," he added.

BracU law students launched the protest Sunday evening after lecturer Farhaan was reportedly assaulted by Registrar Maj Gen (retd) Muhammad Sahool Afzal, Assistant Registrar Md Mahi Uddin and Senior Officer of Co-Curricular Activities Jabed Rasel over Farhaan's termination.
Later, students of other departments expressed solidarity and joined the demonstration on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor Syed Saad Andaleeb met with 15 representatives of agitated students led by Farhaan to discuss the alleged assault on Monday night but the meeting ended without any definite resolution to the issue.
A student representative said the authorities refused to fulfil their demands.

"We have started staging demonstration for the third day as the authorities refused to offer an apology for the assault on our teacher and reinstate him as our faculty,” another law student told the Dhaka Tribune.
Farhaan, who was terminated from the university on Sunday, said that his contract with the university was supposed to be effective until August 31.
"The vice-chancellor has formed a probe committee to investigate the matter and the committee has been asked to submit a report within seven days. We demanded the removal of the accused officials during the investigation to ensure transparency but the authorities refused our demand," Farhaan told the Dhaka Tribune.
He went on to say: "We have doubts if the committee will give a neutral report as we do not know who the members of the committee are."
The university authorities were not available for comment over the phone while the security personnel of the university were not allowing journalists into the administrative building.
