The Dhaka University authorities will suspend bus routes if any buses are found running on the wrong side of the road, in violation of traffic regulations.
The decision was made during a recent internal university meeting, according to DU acting proctor AM Amzad.

CourtesyAmzad said: “We have instructed the university's transport section to strictly follow traffic rules. If any transport is found to be disobeying the decision, action will be taken and the route will be temporarily suspended.”
“The DU authorites can’t stop a route permanently, as thousands of students are relying on the university buses for transportation,” he added.
When asked about claims by bus drivers that students pressure them into travelling on the wrong way, Prof Amzad said the drivers had been told not to heed the students' "illegal demands" and to follow traffic rules.
The acting proctor further said that DU authorities would stay in contact with traffic sergeants to ensure the correct routes were maintained.
Student reaction to the decision has been mixed, with some claiming that following proper traffic rules would make it impossible to attend classes and examinations on time.
Around 80 buses, including both single and double-deckers, ply 21 routes in Dhaka to pick up students of DU.
Earlier on July 17, a group of students of Jagannath University assaulted a traffic sergeant for intercepting university buses being driven on the wrong side of the road near Banglamotor intersection in the capital.
