The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities made an announcement yesterday, stating that the police will escort the “O” and “A” level examinees to ensure their security during examinations.
The examinations for the English medium students began on Tuesday.
However, the British Council Bangladesh postponed the first two exams scheduled for Tuesday because of the ongoing non-stop blockades and general strikes imposed by the BNP-led 18 party alliance.
Speaking at a press conference at the Media Centre of the DMP headquarters, DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed said the police would make special arrangements to protect students whose guardians expressed concern over the examinee's safety.
However, organising this special escort requires that guardians file a request in a relevant police station.
The DMP commissioner also added that they have taken the decision because students’ academic lives are at risk due to the continuous political unrest which has been gripping for the country for the past months.
Police said they are on high alert to foil attacks on schools.
Recently, more than 500 educational institutes, including a number of schools and colleges, were torched across the country during the election violence.
