Police to give security for O and A-level exams

English medium students will be provided with police security during agitation programmes if required, in order to allow them to sit their board-level examinations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benazir Ahmed made the announcement in a press conference at police headquarters on Wednesday.

The announcement comes in view of hartals and blockades threatening Ordinary Level and Advanced Level education certificate examinations under the University of Cambridge.

“If guardians feel that they need security, they can contact the nearest police station. Necessary security arrangements will be made if needed,” Benazir said.

The move was taken to protect the meritorious of the country amidst the prevailing political situation, he said.

The official sought assistance from the guardians in this matter. “We have received requests in several police stations regarding the security of their children.”

The Cambridge examinations scheduled for Wednesday will be held in the evening, after the extended hartal programme of BNP-led 18-party alliance ends.

“We will arrange for the highest security if the guardians want to take their children to exam centres. The security of those centres are in consideration.”

Police are on alert regarding attacks inside Dhaka, he said, referring to the recent onslaught on educational institutions throughout the country during elections.
