Nine O, A level exams rescheduled for shutdowns

Update : 07 Jan 2014, 07:43 PM

At least nine O level and A level examinations have been postponed and rescheduled since January last year because of frequent shutdowns and blockades called by the opposition.

Students had to give most of those examinations at midnight. One examination was also cancelled when only four students could reach the centres.

The most recent of such postponements were yesterday and today’s examinations.

British Council officials told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday afternoon that yesterday’s exam was rescheduled for today at 7:30pm, while today’s morning exam would be held at 11:45pm. All other exams would be held as per the previously announced timetable.

The O level and A level examinations are held globally, making it difficult for the authorities concerned to reschedule the examinations once postponed.

Students and guardians expressed their frustration over the uncertainty caused by violent political programmes.

“The worst thing is that we are giving examinations in utter uncertainty. It is affecting our preparation,” said Tanjib Hossain, whose two exams were rescheduled in May.

A group of guardians  submitted a memorandum to the BNP chief on Monday, urging her not to call hartals during O and A level examinations.
