The Department of Pharmacy at East West University (EWU) organized a seminar titled “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures in Bangladesh” to observe World Pharmacists Day 2026 at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium on September 28.
Md Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, Chairman of Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd and a member of the Board of Trustees at EWU, delivered the keynote speech. Md Alamgir Hossain, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, attended as the chief guest, while Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, was present as the special guest.
The program was presided over by Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor of EWU. The event began with a welcome address by Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy.
Speakers highlighted the expanding role of pharmacy in modern healthcare systems and emphasized the need for strong industry-academic collaboration to equip graduates with practical expertise, innovative thinking and ethical standards.
They said such collaboration is important for strengthening Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry globally, while empowering pharmacists remains vital for patient safety, drug quality and equitable healthcare services.
To mark the occasion, the department also organized two student competitions — a poster presentation and a Pharma Olympiad — followed by an awards ceremony for the winners.
The event was attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, faculty members, officials, current students and alumni of the Department of Pharmacy.
