Hard drives and other computer components have allegedly been stolen from 22 computers at the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.
The division has filed a complaint with Shahbagh Police Station, alleging that an office assistant of the Public Works Department was involved in the theft after identifying him through CCTV footage.
The complaint was filed on Sunday by Md Abdur Rahim, administrative officer of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
Confirming the matter, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said police had received the complaint and were investigating.
According to the complaint, Md Mahbub Hossain, an office assistant of the Public Works Department, had access to keys for various rooms of the division's office.
He allegedly stole 22 computer hard drives, along with processors, RAM modules and printers, from different offices of the Secondary and Higher Education Division on June 14 and July 23.
The estimated value of the stolen items is Tk400,000.
The complaint also alleges that several other items, including cups and plates, went missing.
According to the complaint, CCTV footage captured the theft, and Mahbub was identified from the recordings.
