Bangladesh Academy of Sciences to host 6th Young Scientist Congress

More than 400 participants from home and abroad are expected to attend the congress

The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) will host the 6th Young Scientist Congress (YSC) on April 4–5, 2026, at the National Science & Technology Complex in Agargaon, Dhaka, under the theme “Young Scientists for Artificial Intelligence.”

The opening session will be presided over by BAS President-in-Charge Prof Dr ZN Tahmida Begum. Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam, MP, will attend as the chief guest, while University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed will join as a special guest. BAS Secretary Prof Yearul Kabir will also address the session.

More than 400 participants from home and abroad are expected to attend the congress.

Following the inauguration, Prof Tahmida will preside over the theme lecture, “An Unconventional Path Through AI and Why Discipline Beats Talent,” to be delivered by Dr Ehsan Hoque of the University of Rochester, USA.

A plenary speech will be delivered by Prof Mohammad Ali Moni of Charles Sturt University, Australia, titled “AI for One Health: Building a Smart and Sustainable Health Ecosystem in Bangladesh.”

The two-day event will feature around 300 oral and poster presentations by young researchers across biological, physical, mathematical, and pharmaceutical sciences.

Notable sessions include “Human vs Artificial Intelligence” by Prof Hasan Sarwar of United International University (UIU), “Translational AI and Its Societal Impacts” by Prof Dr Tanzima Hashem of BUET, and a Banglajol Symposium on “Ethical Scientific Publication in the AI Era.”

The congress will conclude on April 5 with a formal ceremony and awards presentation recognizing the best research contributions. Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md Anwar Hossain will attend as the chief guest at the closing session.

Organized under the leadership of Convener Prof Maj Gen (Retd) ASM Matiur Rahman and Member Secretary Prof Liaquat Ali, the event aims to equip young scientists with frontline science, technology, and innovation (STI) tools during Bangladesh’s demographic dividend.
