Teachers and students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) held a human chain protest against Israel's attacks in Gaza.

As part of the protest, the university administration suspended all educational activities for Tuesday.

The human chain was held on Monday at 11:30am in front of Buet's central Shaheed Minar. The news about the suspension of educational activities was announced through a notice sent by the senior assistant director of the Information and Publication Department of Buet.

In the notice, expressing solidarity with the worldwide strike call in protest of the escalating Israeli attacks on Gaza, Professor Dr ABM Badruzzaman, vice-chancellor of Buet, said that they cannot remain silent when an entire population is being bombed, starved, and annihilated.

"It is our moral responsibility to protest against this," he added.

Participating in the human chain program, Professor Dr Abdul Hasib Chowdhury of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and pro-vice chancellor of the university, said that an independent Palestine will rise from these ruins, and that rise will mark the beginning of the fall of colonialism and imperialism.

"The youth of Bangladesh need to shape their lives keeping this thought in mind," he said.

During the human chain, Buet students said that the atrocities being committed against innocent children, women, and ordinary people in Gaza are not just a political crisis but an extreme humanitarian and moral crisis.

They also said terrorist activities such as ceasefire violations, attacks on humanitarian corridors, and destruction of emergency healthcare infrastructure represent the extreme degradation of civilization.

They expressed deep concern and strong protest against the ongoing inhumane violence, indiscriminate killings, bombings, chemical attacks, and human rights violations in Gaza.

They said that they were morally united to be vocal, organized, and take effective positions against what they considered barbarism.

They explained that protesting merely on social media was insufficient and that the time had come to take to the streets and raise their voices together for humanity.

Additionally, they said that, as part of the "Global Strike for Gaza," they were expressing solidarity with other conscious individuals around the world on Monday.
