Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder has said that the target is to ensure that every school operates in a single shift.
The adviser made the comment on Sunday during a meeting with stakeholders in Barisal on improving the quality of primary education, held at the PTI auditorium in Barisal city.
He said: "Our goal is to improve the quality of education. However, we will also work on infrastructural development. Nevertheless, our primary focus remains on enhancing the quality of education."
He further said: "Additionally, schools that currently have classes from sixth to eighth grade are facing various issues. A decision has already been made regarding this, and necessary measures will be taken soon. Starting next year, new admissions may no longer be accepted, and those who are already enrolled will gradually complete their studies and transition out."
"The existing facilities at PTI are sufficient for training teachers. Although there is ample funding for infrastructural development, due to various reasons, we are not achieving the desired level of construction progress. Therefore, the expansion of those involved in development work is necessary. I urge the administration to ensure that teachers are assigned fewer additional duties while schools are in session,” he added.
The discussion was presided over by Barisal's Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain, and featured speeches by Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Director of the Directorate of Primary Education Nilufa Yasmin, Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education in Barisal, and other officials from divisional, district, and upazila levels.
At noon, the adviser held another discussion with 300 head teachers and primary education officials in Barisal metropolis regarding necessary actions for improving primary education.
