Update : 28 Dec 2024, 01:47 PM

Applications for the 2024-25 academic year’s BDS (Dental) admission test will commence on December 29.

The deadline for applications is January 20, and the admission test will take place on February 28.

This year, second-time applicants will face a deduction of 3 and 6 marks under two different methods.

On Saturday, Professor Dr Rubina Yasmin, Additional Director General (Medical Education) of the Directorate General of Health Education, confirmed the information to the media.

She said that candidates interested in participating in the 2024-25 academic year’s BDS (Dental) admission test must have passed HSC, A-level, or equivalent examinations in 2023 or 2024. Students who passed SSC, O-level, or equivalent examinations before 2021 will not be eligible to apply.

Meanwhile, a notice from the Directorate mentioned that candidates must have passed SSC, O-level, or equivalent examinations in the science stream and must include Biology, Physics, and Chemistry in their HSC, A-level, or equivalent examinations.

Additionally, candidates must have a combined GPA of at least 9.00 in SSC, O-level, and HSC, A-level, or equivalent examinations.

For candidates from ethnic minorities and non-ethnic candidates from hilly areas, a combined GPA of at least 8.00 is required.

However, if a candidate has a GPA below 3.50 in any single examination, they will not be deemed eligible. For all candidates, a minimum grade point of 4.0 in Biology in HSC, A-level, or equivalent examinations is mandatory.

The written admission test will follow the HSC syllabus. The test will consist of 100 questions, each worth 1 mark, making a total of 100 marks.

The subject-wise mark distribution is: Biology 30, Chemistry 25, Physics 20, English 15, and General Knowledge (Bangladesh and International Affairs) 10. The test duration is one hour. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer.

If a question has multiple answers selected, it will be considered incorrect, and 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Candidates scoring less than 40 marks in the written test will be deemed unsuccessful for admission to BDS or equivalent courses in the country or abroad. The results, including merit positions, will be published for successful candidates.

The GPA from SSC, O-level, and HSC, A-level, or equivalent examinations will be evaluated out of a total of 100 marks. The SSC, O-level GPA will be multiplied by 10 to allocate a maximum of 50 marks, and the HSC, A-level GPA will similarly be multiplied by 10 for another 50 marks.

The merit position will be determined by summing up the written test score with the marks derived from SSC, O-level, and HSC, A-level, or equivalent GPAs.
