Amit Bikram Roy, a Computer Science and Engineering student at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), claimed the chess championship title at the DRMC 1st National Math Summit, held on October 17, 2024, at Dhaka Residential Model College.
Competing in the high-intensity Blitz tournament, Amit triumphed over 136 participants from various educational institutions nationwide, showcasing exceptional skill and strategic acumen.
With a rating of 2070, Amit ranks among the top 30 chess players in Bangladesh and is actively working toward achieving his FIDE Master norm. His victory highlights his dedication and expertise in the game.
Other IUB students also delivered impressive performances at the event. Justin Mathias, a General Management student, secured fourth place, while Mehrab Al Maksud from the Department of English and Modern Languages reached the quarterfinals. Additionally, Computer Science student Mohiul Alam advanced to the top 32.
The DRMC 1st National Math Summit, which gathered students from schools, colleges, and universities, integrated chess as a competitive element in its academic and extracurricular activities, celebrating intellectual rigor and strategic excellence.
