Students of Badda Alatunnessa Higher Secondary School and College staged a protest march and sit-in on Wednesday, demanding a 16-point charter, including a reduction in tuition and examination fees.
Students gathered at the school gate, marched through the area, and blocked the road in front of the school at around 11am.
On Sunday, they had presented their demands to the teachers during a previous protest.
Nilimoy, a tenth grader student, expressed frustration, saying: "Our school keeps raising fees every year, which has become unaffordable for many middle-class families. The tuition fee for ninth grade is currently Tk1,300, and for tenth grade, it has gone up to Tk1,400."
Another student, Jannat Ara, added: "The school's lab and library facilities are deteriorating instead of improving, yet the administration continues to hike fees. We will keep protesting until our demands are met."
Tanay, another tenth grader student, said: "The headmaster has repeatedly assured us that our demands would be addressed, but nothing has been done. Today, we are united, and we will not leave the streets without achieving our rightful demands."
The students blocked Pragati Sarani in Badda. After the police intervened, they moved to a side road, where they continued their sit-in.
Headmaster Zulfiqur Hossain said that a meeting would be held at the deputy commissioner's office, where a decision would be made after discussions with student representatives.
Kanak, another teacher at the school, mentioned that while the teachers did not have a position on the students' demands, a resolution should be reached through dialogue between the administration and students.
