UIU honors martyrs of Anti-Discrimination Movement with dua mahfil

A heartfelt Dua Mahfil was held at Masjid Al-Mustafa, United City, Madani Avenue,  in memory of Shaheed Irfan Bhuiyan, a student of United International University (UIU), and all martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement.

The event also marked the inauguration of the 'Independence Corner' at the UIU Library, designed to honor and highlight this significant movement for future generations.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman of UIU's Board of Trustees, KM Ahsan Shamim, board member, Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, vice chancellor of UIU, Md Abdul Moqaddem, treasurer of UIU, Professor Emeritus Dr M Rezwan Khan, executive director of IAR at UIU, and Dr Md Zulfiqur Rahman, registrar of UIU.

The Dua Mahfil commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The gathering offered prayers for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs, including Irfan Bhuiyan, who was a student of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at UIU.

They also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured during the movement.

In a gesture of support, United International University and United Group presented a cheque of Tk5,000,000 to the family of Shaheed Irfan Bhuiyan. Additionally, UIU's Library and Maintenance Lab have been named in his honor.

The 'Independence Corner,' inaugurated by Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, vice chancellor of UIU, will serve as a repository for the history and data of the anti-discrimination student movement.

This initiative aims to preserve and continually update information related to the movement, thereby ensuring its significance is maintained for future generations.

Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia emphasized the importance of the Independence Corner in providing accurate historical context and fostering a discrimination-free environment as part of building a new Bangladesh.

The event was well-attended by faculty members, university officials, students, guardians, and other distinguished guests, all of whom gathered to pay tribute and support this noble cause.
