An allegation has been raised against Jahangirnagar University (JU) Professor Dr Ismot Ara, accusing her of sending the resumes of four teachers to Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud for consideration for the positions of vice chancellor and four top administrative posts at JU.
However, she has described the allegation as false and baseless. Dr Ismot Ara, a professor in the Department of Zoology, is also the adviser’s niece.
She said: "A person named Farooq Hossain introduced himself as a journalist and informed me that there is a complaint against me, claiming that I am the niece of the Education Adviser and that I have recommended four candidates for these positions."
While Dr Ismot Ara acknowledged that she is related to Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, she denied sending any resumes to him.
She also asserted that the reports circulating in various online media are false. "I am traumatized by the false news," she added.
Regarding the allegation that she has used her identity for political gain, Dr Ismot Ara said: "I am associated with the Bangabandhu Shikkhok Parishad, but I have never actively participated in political meetings. I was not against the anti-discrimination movement. I came from Dhaka and taught my classes here. Such false information is being spread to defame me and my family."
Meanwhile, the four teachers whose resumes Dr Ismot Ara allegedly sent to the adviser are Professor Khandkar Ashraful Munim of the Department of Economics, Professor Khandkar Mohammad Shariful Huda of the Department of Geography and Environment, Professor Shahadat Hossain of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Anisha Parveen Joli of the Department of History.
When contacted, the teachers also described the media report as false.
