Update : 30 Aug 2024, 10:44 PM

Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College has suspended 39 students of different batches for their alleged involvement in various crimes.

The decision was taken during a meeting on Thursday.

A notice signed by Principal AFM Nurullah was issued in this regard.

The notice says that these 39 students have been accused of attempted murder, criminal activities, and the abuse of general students. The students were suspended and declared banned from the campus and dormitories until a final order and the investigation committee's report are received.

Additionally, the students are required to appear before the investigation committee, if necessary, on Thursday.

According to a source from the medical college, these accused students were associated with the Chhatra League. They exerted their influence to establish dominance in the residential halls.

Many have fallen victim to ragging at their hands, often facing physical abuse when attempting to protest. Despite filing written complaints with the administration, no remedy was available as the Awami League government was in power.

Principal AFM Nurullah of the medical college told media this Friday afternoon over the phone that 11 written complaints had been filed against the accused students.

Based on the preliminary investigation, they have been suspended from the campus and residential halls.

A five-member investigation committee, headed by Associate Prof of Medicine Sahab Ahmed, has been formed for further investigation.

A final decision will be made upon receiving the report from this committee within seven working days.
