JU students told to vacate halls by Wednesday afternoon

The decision was taken considering the safety of the students

Jahangirnagar University authorities have decided to close the university in consideration of the safety of the students.

It has decided to vacate the hall by 4pm on Wednesday.

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the syndicate on Wednesday morning. This information was provided in a circular signed by the registrar of the university Md Abu Hasan.

The circular informed that the decision was taken considering the safety of the students in view of the various incidents that took place due to the quota movement on July 14, 15 and 16.

According to the decision of the meeting, all educational programs of this university were declared closed till further orders. However, the university offices will remain open as usual.

However, the students immediately protested against the decision to close the hall. The agitated students surrounded the registrar's building and vandalized it after the decision to suspend the education program.

Along with that, more than a thousand students came out with sticks from different halls.

Meanwhile, police have entered the university to deal with the situation.
