The authorities of Jahangirnagar University have terminated an assistant professor over his unethical activities.
The terminated teacher is Mahmudur Rahman Johnny, assistant professor of the Public Health and Informatics department of the university, also the former Chhatra League president of the university unit.
This decision was taken in a special syndicate meeting on Tuesday presided over by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nurul Alam .
At the end of the syndicate meeting, Abu Hasan, the registrar of the university, told the media that Mahmudur Rahman Johnny was unanimously dismissed from the job following a recommendation of the probe committee.
On November 21, 2022, an intimate photo of Mahmudur Rahman was leaked with a female lecturer of the same department.
At the same time, 27 intimate conversations with a female student applying for a faculty position in the department were leaked where information about forced abortion against Mahmudur Rahman emerged.
After that, a committee was formed in the face of the movement of teachers and students to verify the incident.
When the report of the committee was taken to the syndicate, a “clarification committee” was formed mentioning that the report of the previous committee was not complete.
Meanwhile, a structured committee was formed in August last year after the initial truth was found in the report of this committee.
This decision was taken from the emergency syndicate meeting on Tuesday after six months of formation of the structured committee.
Johnny, a member of the 36th batch of the Department of Environmental Science, served as the president of the JU branch of the Bangladesh Chhatra League in 2012.
In 2018, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Public Health and Informatics, eventually rising to the position of Assistant Professor. Since his appointment, he faced multiple allegations of "unethical" relationships with several female students.
