A total of 19,359 students were absent on the first day of the nationwide SSC and equivalent exams across Bangladesh on Thursday.
Of these absences, 9,731 were under the nine education boards.
Besides, 7,660 students were under the madrasa board, and 1,968 were under the technical board, according to the Ministry of Education's control room on Thursday.
Meanwhile, 24 students were expelled for adopting unfair means in the exams.
Of them, 11 students were expelled under the technical board, seven under the madrasa board, four under the Mymensingh board, and two under the Barisal board.
An inspector under the Comilla board was also expelled.
The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations for 2023 began on Thursday morning.
Nine general education boards
Among the absent students, 2,345 candidates are from Dhaka Education Board, 809 from Chittagong Education Board, 1,181 from Rajshahi Education Board, 682 from Barisal Education Board, 564 from Sylhet Education Board, 1,043 from Dinajpur Education Board, 1,370 from Comilla Education Board, 604 from Mymensingh Education Board, 1,333 from Jessore Education Board.
In this examination, six students were expelled due to adopting unfair means in the exams.
According to the control room data, the total number of candidates in the nine boards was 1,418,292.
Among them, 1,408,561 people were present.
Technical and madrasa education boards
On the first day of Dakhil examination, 7,660 candidates were absent in Qur'an Majid and Tajweed examination.
As per the data from the control room of the Technical and madrasa Education Division, the total number of candidates in 718 centres under the Madrasah Board was 248,417.
Among them, 240,837 candidates were present.
There were 116, 203 candidates in 709 centres of SSC (Vocational) and Dakhil (Vocational) under the Technical Education Board.
Among them, 114, 235 candidates participated in the examination. 1,168 people were absent.
Besides, 11 students have been expelled.
