The temperature dropped to 8.9°C in Tangail on Monday, the lowest this winter, prompting the authorities to announce the closure of all primary and secondary schools in the districts for Tuesday.

Tangail has 1,023 primary schools with 432,000 students and 824 secondary schools with 424,963 students, according to the district education office.

Jamal Uddin, the official in charge of the Tangail met office, said the temperature was dropping almost every day, predicting harsh weather conditions persisting for the next few days.

District Education Officer Rebecca Sultana said a decision about the following days would be based on Tuesday's temperature.

Despite the school closures, colleges would remain open, Deputy Commissioner Kaysarul Islam said.
