The Power Factor Improvement and Smart Grid under Dhaka Power Development Company (DPDC) held an awareness raising seminar for the students of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Thursday.
This is a blended finance project where an EU grant is combined with a soft loan from the French development agency, AFD, for a total of €112 million.
It is the first ever-smart grid project in Bangladesh.
Some 1,141,000 people will benefit from a significant improvement in the quality of electricity service under the project. This will also help fight climate change by preventing an accumulated 104,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, said a statement.
The project is organizing seminars for university and school students, allowing them to learn, acquire, retain, and apply knowledge and skills, and to get them into this revolutionary journey to make the country, and its power system, smarter.
‘Smart Grid: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Energy’ was the title of the seminar. NKSoft Corporation, USA, facilitated the event.
UAP Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamrul Ahsan chaired the seminar while DPDC Executive Director Morshed Alam Khan, and chief engineer Md Tariqul Hoque spoke as guests.
John Chowdhury, Managing Director at NKSoft Corporation, presented the keynote paper.
Edwin Koekkoek, Team Leader - Green Inclusive Development and Social Protection, EU; and Thibaut Hamm, Project Manager, AFD, shared their perspectives.
