Zoena Mehbis, a class III student of English Version of South Point School of Dhaka, has won an award for securing first position in Shaheed Sheikh Russell School Chess Tournament-2023
She won the award under the category of girl’s small division (Class I-IV).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the program marking the Sheikh Russell Day 2023 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre organized by the Sheikh Russell National Youth Council on October 18 and distributed the prizes to the winners of the chess, painting and cultural competitions.
Other award recipients of South Point's English medium are --grade three student Muhtadi Tajwar Nasheed and grade five student Sidratul Muntaha Nafi.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Secretary General of Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad and Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation K M Shahidullah were also present in this program of Sheikh Russell Day.
The school also won the honour of becoming the champion in two categories and runner-up in one category in the Sheikh Kamal National Youth Chess Competition organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation.
Among them, Warshia Khusbu, a grade six student, has already been awarded the title of "Women Candidate Master" by the World Chess Organization and has been nominated by the Bangladesh Chess Federation to participate in the World Youth Chess Tournament.
Apart from education, South Point School authorities are also conducting regular training programs for students in chess and other sports.
According to Bangladesh Chess Federation, if regular chess training continues like this, the students of South Point School will go far in chess.
