Allegations of irregularities have arisen regarding the recruitment of assistant teachers in government primary schools by Khagrachari Zilla Parishad. It has been claimed that the roll number of a candidate who did not pass the written and oral exam appeared on the final results list.
However, the authorities denied the allegation and claimed that this discrepancy was due to a printing error.
The Zilla Parishad's published results on September 22 showed 1,249 candidates as passing the written examination.
The written exam results were published sequentially, and there was no serial number 771 on the result sheet. However, the final result, which was released on October 6, now includes serial number 771, and this candidate has been selected for the job.
In total, 337 students passed the written exam. It is unclear how roll number 771, which wasn't on the initial written test list, ended up in the final results. The candidate's identity is still unknown.
Khagrachari Zilla Parishad member Partha Tripura Jewel said: "There have been corruption and irregularities in the recruitment. Initially, 257 people were supposed to be hired, but 337 got jobs. The written test had issues with the question papers, and deserving candidates missed out. The freedom fighter quota was not reserved, and there was no deputy commissioner representative during the recruitment process.”
"Results should have been published based on merit, but not in this case. Example 771 shows recruitment with irregularities, like bribery and corruption, even though this number was not in the written exam but somehow passed the final one," he added.
Rafiqul Alam, former mayor of Khagrachari municipality, said: "If you have been following social media for the past two days, you will see how much corruption has taken place. The recruitment process did not follow any rules and regulations. I am calling for a thorough investigation into the entire recruitment process and action against those responsible for irregularities and corruption."
The recruitment provider, Khagrachari Chairman Monsui Pru Chowdhury, said: "There have been no irregularities in the recruitment process. There is no room for corruption. The number 771 could be a printing error. We will verify and review everything when the office reopens."
