Workshop on pragmatic approaches to applied ethics held at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB)'s Department of General Education (GED) organized a workshop titled “What counts as moral progress?: Discussing pragmatic approaches to applied ethics” on the campus in Dhaka on Tuesday. 

The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by the Head of the Department and the Director of the Centre for Archaeological Studies (CAS), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) Dr Shahnaj Husne Jahan, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

In her speech, she highlighted the importance of moral values including applied ethics in higher education and professional settings. 

Georgia (Gigi) Fagan, a Masters of Philosophy student of the University of Sydney, Australia who is recently directing her documentary on conflict and love in Bangladesh facilitated the workshop. 

Georgia has a professional background in ethics, feminist theory and social equity. Central to the workshop was group discussions on questions like, “What is ethical philosophy good for?”, “How should we best approach matters of ethical disagreement?” and “How important is the concept of ‘truth' to philosophy and our broader societies?” 

Reflecting poet Willam Bronk poem's philosophical traditions in ethics that refers to changes and understanding the beauty of transformation she pointed to pragmatism as an alternative approach to love and live.
