The functions of Kushtia Islami University (IU) got stuck as the post of vice-chancellor has remained vacant for long time.
According to local sources, on June 30, the government removed the vice-chancellor of Islamic University in Kushtia, professor Abdul Hakim Sarker without citing any reason.
University acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said through fax, he received a circular issued by the Ministry of Education that said president Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, relieved Abdul Hakim of the post of IU VC. It, however, did not mention any reason for the removal of the VC, the registrar added.
On July 20, Teachers' Association of the University protested the removal of VC and urged the government to appoint a new VC.
Professor Abdul Hakim of Dhaka University’s Social Welfare and Research Institute was made the IU VC on December 27, 2012.
IU teachers and students said functions of the univesity were hampered seriouly as many documents remained unsigned.
Students said they might have faced sesson-jam as exams are not held timely.
Regular meetings of sydicate, academic councilors and policy makers are not held.
Dr Emtaz Hossain, president of Teachers Association, said the teachers of the university urged the government to appoint VC to continue the function.
“Now the university has no guardian. Without a guardiman, no institution can continue its work,” he said.
Md Akamuddin Biswas, Director(In-Charge) of Accounts, said any untoward situation might take place if the post of the VC remained vacant for long time.
“We urged the government to cinsider the situation sincerely,” he said.
He added that the payment of the techers and other staffs might be stopped if this situation is going on.
Proctor Dr Mahbubuur Rahman said : “ Law and order situation may collapse any time due to vacant the post of the vice-chancellor in the university.”
Registered Abdul Latif said : “ Administrative works of the university totally collpsed as the several important files have remained without signature for many days.”
“We need urgent solution of the dead lock situation,” he said.
