No school closure after 13 students test Covid positive in Thakurgaon

Infected students and teachers will be kept in isolation, authorities say

The district administration in Thakurgaon has decided not to shut down schools in the wake of the fresh Covid-19 infections in 13 students and six teachers in Sadar upazila. 

Following a coordination meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Alam on Friday night, the authorities have ordered isolation for the students and teachers to prevent the spread of the disease.

It has been decided that in cases of fresh infections, the patients will be kept in isolation, and that no schools will be declared shut.

Earlier, five students of Thakurgaon Bahadurpara Government Primary School tested positive for Covid resulting in suspension of the classes. They are students of grades two and three, and aged between q0 and 12.

The school authorities suspended the classes of those grades for a week upon permission of the higher officials.

The teachers infected by Covid have also been kept in isolation.

Moreover, 13 other children of Thakurgaon Government Children's Family have contracted Covid in the last few days. They are students of Hazipara Adarsha High School. 

Rikta Banu, deputy supervisor of Thakurgaon Government Children's Family, said: “One of our members, a student of Hajipara Adarsh High School, contracted fever and cold on September 16.

Later, 25 members submitted their samples for Covid-19 test at Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital between Monday and Wednesday. Of them, 13 students, including the five primary school students, tested positive for Covid-19, she added.

Earlier, an eighth-grader, who had been suffering from suspected Covid symptoms of fever, sore throat and shortness of breath, died in Manikganj Sadar on Wednesday.

Identified as Rodela, she died in the evening on way to Dhaka’s Kurmitola General Hospital.

Rodela was a student of Surendra Kumar (SK) Govt Girls’ High School where she had a brilliant academic record of standing first in the class. She also excelled in dance, music and debates and won several prizes in school competitions.

Meanwhile, another student of class X of the same school has tested positive for covid-19.

The two incidents have sparked concern among the guardians.

The teachers, however, said they are taking classes following all health protocols.

Meanwhile, the Upazila Primary Education Office closed the classroom of a school as a student of Beenapani Government Primary got Covid-19 in Gopalganj. 

Monalisa Islam, a fifth-grader, tested positive for the deadly virus on September 21.

Earlier, a grade-three student was also attacked by the deadly virus in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj on September 17.
