Eminent industrialist, philanthropist, and North South University (NSU) founding member Azim Uddin Ahmed has been unanimously elected as the chairman of the university’s board of trustees.
This is set to be Ahmed’s fourth term as the NSU BoT chairman, according to an NSU press release.
Ahmed is the chairman of the Mutual Group of companies. He is also the sponsor director and former chairman of Southeast Bank Limited and has headed nine other companies.
He entered the trading business while still a young student in 1962. He was already an established businessman prior to the Liberation War of 1971, and he continued to prosper afterwards.
As a respected leader in business community, Ahmed has served on the executive committees of various trade bodies multiple times, including the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (FBCCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), Bangladesh Indenting Association, and Bangladesh Association of Bankers (BAB).
He is currently the president of the Bangladesh Consumer Product Manufacturers and Marketers Association.
He has also served as the president of Gulshan Club, Baridhara Society, and Rotary Club for consecutive tenures, and volunteered for the foundations of many schools and madrasas.
Ahmed was born to an aristocratic Muslim family in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni on June 30, 1940. He graduated from Dhaka University.
