Eight students, who secured positions in the waiting list of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) entry test for 2019-20 session, continue their hunger strike for the third consecutive day on Thursday demanding admission against the vacant seats at the university.
Meanwhile, two of the protesting students, Milon Ali and Deepak Chandra Das, fell sick on Wednesday and were admitted to the Gopalganj General Hospital.
Besides, Mahfuzul Haque, another admission seeking student is reportedly continuing on with the protest in poor health.
The admission seekers have been on hunger strike for 60 hours straight before the university main gate. Earlier, they submitted a memorandum to BSMRSTU vice chancellor demanding resumption of the admission process.
Sourav Sheel, one of the protesting students, said, they have come to know from Assistant Registrar Nazrul Islam that there are many seats left vacant.
“But the university authorities have stopped the admission process without any prior notice, making our education life uncertain. We will continue our protest until our demand is met,” he added.
Dr AQM Mahbub, vice chancellor of BSMRSTU said they have called an emergency meeting of the committee on the admission test on November 1. “Decision will be taken on the matter after the meeting,” he added.
According to campus sources, excluding the ward quota, the BSMRSTU has as many as 444 seats vacant in 2019–20 academic year.
