The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have back-pedalled on its decision to prohibit the Rag Day celebration on campus, saying the information on Wednesday's notice was mistakenly misrepresented.
In another statement issued on Thursday, signed by DU Public Relations Officer Mahmood Alam, the authorities expressed regret for the confusion.
Wednesday's press statement, also signed by Mahmood Alam, said students of Dhaka University had been barred from celebrating Rag Day inside the campus.
The decision came from an online meeting of the Academic Council (AC), chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman and attended by more than 300 DU Academic Council members.

Originally, the DU Academic Council asked the authorities to be vigilant to ensure that no inhumane, disrespectful, or undisciplined behaviour takes place on campus or in hostels in the name of Rag Day celebration, the new press statement says.
Policies need to be formulated to organize events, festivals or rallies for celebrating “education completion” or graduation, the Academic Council decided.
A committee was also formed with the pro-vice chancellor (administration) as convener, proctor as secretary and deans of the faculties of arts, biology and business studies as members, to develop the policies.
