Abdullah Abu Sayeed, chairman of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, inaugurated the award giving ceremony at the Baptist Mission Girls High School in Barisal on Friday. The award ceremony was organised by the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in collaboration with Grameenphone.
Of the 3,000 participants from 31 schools of Barisal, the 1,316 awarded students successfully navigated the evaluation process run by Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.
At the ceremony, Abu Sayeed said: “Education is the first criterion that needs to be fulfilled to become a developed nation, followed by intelligence, patriotism, power and courage. You can get that education from some of the best writers of books through the collection of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. Bishwo Shahitto Kendro is providing you that opportunity by giving you these books.”
Children’s litterateur Ali Imam said while congratulating the award winners: “You will be enlightened more if you read books and that will help enlighten the entirety of Bangladesh as well.”
Regional Head of Grameenphone Ahsan Habib said: “For the last 14 years, along with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Grameenphone has worked to enlighten the young generation and we will continue our efforts to do so.”
Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Barisal Md. Gaus and Dr. Gazi Md Saifuzzaman thanked Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and Grameenphone for arranging the award ceremony.
