Female students at Rajshahi University (RU) staged a demonstration yesterday in front of its Transport Office demanding more buses in different routes to carry them.
RU sources said there were 28 buses for 30,000 students. Of them, 15,000 are female students. They have to suffer more as the number of buses for them is only five.
Banasree Howlader, fourth year student of Law department of the university, said: “Everyday, we have to fight to reach the varsity as there is no sufficient rooms in the buses. It seems that the administration of the institution does not evaluate us as human being.”
“If the authorities think us as human being, they should come to help us by providing more buses,” she also said.
When contacted, Professor Moinul Haque, in-charge of the transport section of the varsity, said: “Its not possible for us to increase the number of buses due to lack of staffs.”
Recently, a bus also had been provided for the female students after a movement by them, said the sources.
