8 sustained burn injuries as private car catches fire in Mohammadpur

A fire broke out at a workshop in capital’s Mohammadpur area on Monday, leaving eight people including the owner with burn injuries.

The incident occurred around noon at Mona Motors Servicing Centre on Humayun Road in the Mohammadpur area.

According to initial reports, the blaze originated from a private car that had been brought to the workshop for servicing.

The injured were identified as the workshop owner Md. Mona, 40; Miraj, 36; Rehan Badal, 23; Johny, 35; Akash, 25; Azad, 55; Tarek Rahman, 23; and Irfan, 11.

Among the eight victims, Md. Mona and Irfan were admitted to hospital, while the remaining six received primary treatment and were later released.

Arman, a neighbour who helped rescue the victims, said the fire started from a private car inside the service centre, causing burn injuries to workers present at the spot. The injured were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said two of the injured were admitted with 15 to 20 percent burn injuries, while the others were treated and discharged after receiving primary aid.
