Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that proper justice will be ensured in the Pilkhana Massacre case.
He made the remarks on Monday after a views-exchange meeting with heads of different departments at the Secretariat.
The minister stated that the issue is also included in the government’s election manifesto, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring justice.
He emphasized the need to maintain a clear chain of command within law enforcement agencies. Referring to the lottery-based appointments of Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) before the election, he said that some officials were posted to districts where they were not suitable.
Appointments should have been made based on service records, he added, expressing concerns that the lottery process was not transparent. The government will review the matter.
He also said that in several cases filed on August 5, certain opportunistic groups implicated many innocent people, causing harassment. These cases will be examined, and instructions have already been given in this regard. Police will investigate and submit reports after proper scrutiny.
The minister further stated that no one will be allowed to unlawfully obstruct police duties.
However, police accountability will be ensured so that people do not face harassment. He also directed that Superintendents of Police must not extend protocol to anyone beyond legal provisions for political reasons.
