The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said strict security measures will be in place around the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, warning that any mob situation will be dealt with firmly.

DMP Additional Commissioner Md Sarwar disclosed the security plan at a briefing on Wednesday morning.

He said around 300 closed-circuit cameras have been installed to ensure round-the-clock surveillance during the fair. A special team of plainclothes police officers will also be deployed across the venue.

Separate security arrangements have been made for women and children. In addition to regular police, the SWAT team will remain on standby to respond to any emergency.

Sarwar said a special security plan will be implemented on weekends, considering the higher number of visitors. Coordinated efforts have also been taken to ensure the cleanliness of the fair premises and the comfort of attendees.

Police will also monitor book stalls to ensure that no publication that may hurt religious sentiments is displayed.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the fair on Thursday. The fair will continue until March 15.
