Near the Mohakhali flyover in the capital, a speeding private car crashed into a road divider and caught fire. Two people inside the car died, but their identities are not yet known.
The accident occurred around 2:20am on Saturday, according to Banani police station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Siddiq Hossain.
He said that just before entering the Mohakhali flyover, the car hit the road divider hard, which caused the fire.
Locals immediately rescued two people from the car and took them to Kurmitola General Hospital and another person to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital.
One died at night, and another died at Kurmitola Hospital.
The body of the person who died at Kurmitola was then taken to DMCH Hospital. Both bodies will be autopsied there.
Siddiq said: “The ages of the deceased are approximately between 45 and 50 years.”
“Another person in the car was injured, but his hospital location is unknown. Authorities are trying to identify the victims by reviewing nearby CCTV footage,” he added.
Inspector Md Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police post said that the bodies of the two deceased are kept at the DMCH morgue, where autopsies will be performed.
