All rooms of Nagar Bhaban, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters, will be reopened on Monday, but the offices of the administrator and engineers will remain locked, BNP leader Ishraque Hossain's supporters announced at a press conference on Sunday.

They said that in the interest of public service, regional offices and relevant departments will be reopened and that employees are urged to return to their respective offices and resume duties.

Movement coordinator and former secretary Mashiur Rahman said: “On behalf of the residents of Dhaka, we are ready to resist all conspiracies by the local government adviser. At the same time, we urge all officials and staff of the relevant departments to carry out their responsibilities to ensure uninterrupted citizen services.”

He added: “By not allowing Ishraque Hossain to take his oath [as DSCC mayor], Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has violated both the constitution and court orders. We demand his removal.”

Moshiur continued: “The chief executive officer, secretary, health department, waste management department, store and procurement, accounts and audit, social welfare, law, revenue, property, transport, electricity, mechanical, establishment, security, public relations, ICT cell, urban planning division, and regional executive officers must operate from their respective offices to ensure key services like issuance and renewal of birth and death certificates, citizenship certificates, inheritance certificates, verification documents, trade licenses, mosquito control, waste management, dengue and chikungunya prevention, and streetlight operations.”

Issuing a warning, he said: “No corrupt official, collaborator of the former government, or ally of the fascist Awami League will be allowed to enter Nagar Bhaban or regional offices. They will be resisted on sight. Any official neglecting their duties will also face strict consequences.”

On May 14, several rooms in Nagar Bhaban were padlocked with chains.

While those locks will now be removed, the offices of the administrator and engineers will remain closed.

The protesters also said they will resist any new appointments that may be attempted.
