Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that former president Abdul Hamid will face legal action only if the ongoing investigation confirms his guilt.
“The investigation against him (Hamid) is still ongoing. If he is found guilty after the investigation, he will be punished; if he is found innocent, he will be released,” Jahangir said after visiting Jatrabari police station in Dhaka, reports Bangla Tribune.
In response to a question about what action would be taken against the police officials involved in allowing the former president to leave the country, the adviser said: “An investigation is underway regarding the matter of allowing him to travel abroad. Three advisers are conducting the investigation. Action will be taken based on their report—if the officials are found innocent, they will be released; if found guilty, they will be punished.”
Speaking on the issue of robberies in Araihazar, Jahangir said: “Please raise public awareness regarding drugs and robberies. In addition to the police, the public must remain vigilant to prevent such crimes. Araihazar is indeed an area affected by robberies. If everyone works together, these incidents can definitely be stopped.”
He further said: “You all know what the state of the banks was when we took office. Now, the economic situation is improving. We have purchased 200 vehicles for the police. Later, vehicles will be purchased for every police station.”
