Light rain began in the capital early Monday morning and gradually intensified into a heavy downpour, causing suffering for school, college, and office-goers.

After a night of overcast skies, rain began around 5am and quickly led to water accumulation on various roads across the city.

Streets in Mirpur 10 roundabout, Rampura, Badda, Shyamoli, Jatrabari, Kawran Bazar, and Bijoy Sarani experienced waterlogging.

Due to the water covering the roads, residents of areas like Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Badda, and Dhanmondi faced traffic congestion and difficulties in commuting.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has reported that the monsoon is active over the eastern part of Bangladesh and moderately active elsewhere in the country. It is also moderately positioned over the northern Bay of Bengal.

According to the 24-hour forecast from 9am on Monday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur in many places of Sylhet division, at a few places in Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions, and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions.

Some areas in Sylhet division may experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall. Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

Meteorologists have said that this rainfall is primarily due to the active monsoon.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the monsoon is active over eastern Bangladesh and moderately active in other regions.

Additionally, the monsoon is in a moderate state over the northern Bay of Bengal.

Experts believe this rainfall is part of the normal seasonal pattern and may continue for the next few days.

Due to the rain, city dwellers may face problems like waterlogging and traffic congestion.
