DNCC clarifies army will not be involved in Eid waste management, dengue control

Recent news stories had quoted DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz as suggesting that troops would be deployed to handle both Eid-related waste management and mosquito control efforts

Update : 27 May 2025, 10:20 PM

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Tuesday clarified that the Bangladesh Army would not manage sacrificial animal waste or control dengue mosquitoes during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, following “misleading” reports in some media outlets.

Recent news stories had quoted DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz as suggesting that troops would be deployed to handle both Eid-related waste management and mosquito control efforts.

However, the DNCC in its latest press statement said these reports were inaccurate and misrepresented the administrator’s remarks.

The DNCC would be responsible for managing waste during the upcoming Eid, Azaz said.

The DNCC expressed pride in the military’s continued efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and public security, as well as its significant role in infrastructure development across Bangladesh.

It added that while the army itself would not be involved in mosquito control operations, Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF), operated under the management of the Bangladesh Army, would provide technical support in dengue prevention efforts during the monsoon season.

The DNCC noted that BMTF had previously offered similar assistance to Sylhet, Chittagong and Narayanganj city corporations in anti-mosquito campaigns.
