The Dhaka City Land Owners’ Association organized a sit-in protest encircling the headquarters of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to protest against alleged arbitrariness, irregularities in plan approvals and to demand amendments to the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) and the Building Construction Rules.
The protest began at approximately 9:15am on Tuesday, in front of Rajuk's main office in Motijheel.
The program saw participation from several thousand individuals, including landowners, engineers, and other stakeholders from the housing and real estate sector.
Addressing the protest, Professor Dr Dewan MA Sajjad, convener of the Dhaka City Land Owners’ Association, said: “Over two hundred thousand landowners have been adversely affected by the newly implemented DAP. Today’s demonstration has been organized on behalf of the Dhaka City Land Owners’ Association, formed with the participation of affected landowners across the capital. This protest aims to press for the amendment of RAJUK’s arbitrary actions, corruption, the DAP, and the building construction regulations.”
During the demonstration, the protesting landowners of Dhaka demanded immediate acceptance of their concerns and urgent revision of the DAP.
