For the first time, a three-day film festival is set to be organized by the Jagannath University Film Society.
The announcement was made on Monday, at 12pm during a press conference held in the Film Society Room of the university’s Obokash Bhaban.
At the event, the official poster of the festival was also unveiled.
The poster highlights the traditional kite festival of Old Dhaka as a central theme.
The poster was inaugurated by Professor Dr Shah Mohammad Nistar Jahan Kabir, chairman of the Department of Film and Television at Jagannath University.
During the press conference, Hasibuzzaman Rik, general secretary of the Jagannath University Film Society, said in a written speech that the festival will take place on June 23, 24, and 25 across three venues, including Jagannath University.
Centered primarily around short films, the festival has already received over fifty submissions from students and filmmakers across the country, with the registration process still ongoing.
From the submitted entries, thirty-five short films will be selected for screening following evaluation by a panel of judges.
He further informed that four awards will be presented across two categories in the competitive segment.
A panel comprising renowned and acclaimed filmmakers and critics of the country will serve as judges.
Additionally, the festival will feature two workshops; one on "advertising film production" and another on "successful film production", which will be conducted by two of the country’s prominent directors and producers.
The festival will also include two days of open film screenings.
He added that invitations for participating filmmakers, along with details regarding workshop participation and other procedures, will be announced shortly.
Professor Dr Shah Mohammad Nistar Jahan Kabir said: “There are many creative individuals in our department. I believe such festivals should be organized not only in public universities but also in other institutions. I am truly inspired by their efforts and extend my best wishes to them.”
Adan Mahmud Saikat, president of the Film Society, along with other members of the executive committee were present ar the meeting.
