Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has confirmed that a legal case is ongoing against actor Nusraat and that the investigation is currently underway.
Responding to journalists' queries during a press briefing following a law and order meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, the adviser said: “If she had been released, people would have said she was let go. Now that she has been detained, people are questioning why. What would you do if someone had a case filed against them?”
He further explained that there is a government policy in place concerning travel bans. “Only those who fall under the purview of this policy are prevented from traveling,” he said, implying that the restriction on Nusraat’s foreign travel is consistent with existing regulations, Bangla Tribune reports.
Farooki calls Nusraat Faria’s arrest ‘embarrassing’Addressing broader concerns, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured that the government remains committed to ensuring justice. “Measures will be taken so that only offenders are brought under the law and punished. At the same time, it will be ensured that no innocent individual faces punishment under any circumstance,” he stated.
When asked about Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s recent comment labeling Faria’s arrest as “embarrassing,” the Home Affairs Adviser said he was unaware of the remark. “Whatever he said is his personal opinion. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression,” he added.
