Students of the seven government colleges previously affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) have warned that they will take to the streets again starting Monday if their five-point demands are not met, stating that although a declaration was made to merge the colleges into a single university, no progress has been made beyond proposing a name.
They made this announcement at a press conference held at Eden Mohila College on Saturday.
The five-point demands presented by the students are as follows:
- A government gazette must be issued by Sunday to appoint an interim administration
- After the appointment, the administration must address the session backlog and prepare a comprehensive academic calendar
- Clear measures must be taken to resolve issues like phantom results, excessive fees, and other irregularities
- Within two working days of the appointment, the 2024–25 admission test must be arranged
- Within the next five working days, the blueprint, logo, and monogram for Dhaka Central University must be published
Additionally, the students demanded that the ordinance for establishing the new university be issued by June 16 and that the upcoming 2025–26 national budget allocate funding for the institution.
