Update : 17 Apr 2025, 06:53 PM

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division returned a total of 251 mobile phones — lost, stolen, or snatched at various times — to their rightful owners from six police stations under the Tejgaon division on Thursday morning.

According to sources in the DMP's Tejgaon Division, based on General Diaries (GD) and complaints filed by the mobile phone owners due to various reasons including loss, theft, and snatching, the breakdown of recoveries by police station is the following:

  • Sher-e-Bangla Nagar: 63 phones

  • Hatirjheel: 54 phones

  • Mohammadpur: 40 phones

  • Tejgaon Industrial Area: 32 phones

  • Adabor: 32 phones

  • Tejgaon: 30 phones

DC Ibn Mizan said: “Mobile phones contain a lot of personal information. From pictures to important data, everything is stored on a mobile phone. When a phone is lost, it causes a major problem. A special team was formed in the DMP’s Tejgaon Division.”

He further said: “We started working on recovering the lost phones with skilled officers from six police stations under the Tejgaon Division. Various techniques were used to recover these phones. Among the phones lost over the past few months, we have recovered over 250. However, these phones were recovered because of the GDs, so no one has been arrested.”

When asked about what measures have been taken to prevent snatching, given that the number of snatching incidents is higher than that of lost phones, the DMP officer said: “In the last three months, we have arrested more than 800 snatchers. The situation is now under control, and our efforts are ongoing. Teams have been formed in different police stations to prevent snatching. Block raids are being conducted in areas where snatchers are more active to carry out arrest operations. Also, snatched phones are not kept by the criminals themselves. They are passed on to second and third parties.”

Mobile phone owners expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the police after receiving their lost phones in the shortest possible time.
