A human chain was formed demanding the publication of the gazette for the 227 candidates excluded from the second gazette of the 43rd BCS before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Around 30 participants, including the excluded candidates and their family members, joined the protest held at the base of the Raju sculpture at 12pm on Tuesday.
Khairul Islam, one of the 227 excluded candidates, said: “On January 9, 2025, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, stated in front of the media that candidates could join unless accused of criminal offenses, treason, or expulsion from an educational institution. He mentioned that a new gazette would take two to three working days as two other offices were involved.”
“Yet, two months have passed, and the gazette is still unpublished,” he added.
Another excluded candidate of the 43rd BCS, Afsona Parvin, said: “While our colleagues are preparing to celebrate Eid with their families with salaries and bonuses in the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, we are not even in a position to face our families.”
“Many of us, considering the age, illness, emotions, and dreams of our parents, have not yet told such big news to our families, because we were assured that we would be recruited in the shortest possible time,” she further added.
On December 30, 2024, the government published a gazette that put the appointment of 227 recommended officers on hold. In response, on December 31, the affected candidates protested in front of the Ministry of Public Administration, seeking an explanation for their exclusion from the final gazette.
On January 2, 2025, the ministry issued a notice inviting applications for reconsideration, and all the excluded candidates submitted their applications.
